Patrick Meikle is an award-winning, Jamaican-based illustrator, character designer and animator. His passion for creating art and bringing it to life eventually led him to complete his BFA in Animation at the University of the West Indies, Mona. Patrick’s desire to aid in propelling the animation industry in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean, gave way to several opportunities like serving as former Community Development Manager of the Jamaican Animation Nation Network as well as delegate for the Jamaican Animation Team at Kidscreen (2018).
This commitment to the growth of the local animation industry was furthered while working in his current position at animation and design studio, ListenMi Caribbean Ltd. where Patrick acted as lead instructor and coordinator of the Greater Cakes Story, Comic and Animation Workshop. At ListenMi, Patrick continues to provide character designs, concept art and emotive animations for the company’s clientele and original stories like The Adventures of Kam Kam - which was awarded the Best Concept prize in the Emerging Animated Content Competition at Kingstoon Animation Festival (2019).
Patrick’s affinity for creativity, however, is not confined to the digital space, as his expertise in traditional art is evidenced in accomplishments like winning first place in the Caricature Drawing Competition at Kingstoon Animation Festival (2016) and having his work showcased in Jamaica’s National Art Gallery (2012). Through his unique and compelling style and his love for storytelling, Patrick served as director, animator, character designer and co-author for short film Truly Valiant, the 3rd Place Winner of the Film Category in the EngageArt competition 2019-2020.
